Every city has its cultural celebrities that play essential roles in the development of the local culture. There are also many such celebrities in Tibet who contribute a lot to the Tibetan culture. So, do you know any of these Tibetan celebrities?

Tsangyang Gyatso

Tsangyang Gyatso was the 6th Dalai Lama. He was a Monpa by ethnicity and was born at Urgelling Monastery. He had grown up a youth of high intelligence, liberal to a fault, fond of pleasure, alcohol, and women, and later led a playboy lifestyle. The 6th Dalai Lama composed poems and songs that have become popular not only in modern-day Tibet, but all across China.

Songtsan Gambo and Princess Wencheng

The story of Tibet King Songtsan Gambo and Princess Wencheng of Tang Dynasty is well known by Tibetan people as well as Han people. Princess Wencheng brought crop and vegetable seeds to Tibet, and joined her entourage in teaching the local people how to grow crops and vegetables, grind wheat flour and make wine. Besides, Princess Wencheng brought out Buddhist pagodas, scriptures and statues of Buddha which she had brought into the Tubo area for construction of monasteries.

Tobgyal

Tobgyal is a Chinese actor of Tibetan descent, best known in film for portraying a tribal chief in Red River Valley (1997), Ri Tai in Kekexili: Mountain Patrol (2004), and Zhan Tiejun in No Man's Land (2013). He is a National Class-A Actor.He is a member of the China Theater Association and China Film and Television Association.

Han Hong

Han Hong is a Chinese singer and songwriter of mixed Tibetan and Han ethnicity. She was born in Chamdo on September 26, 1971. Like her mother, a Tibetan singer, Han Hong is able to shift quite easily from piercing high pitches to soft low tones. Han Hong is one of the most popular Chinese female musicians who specializes in a variety of Chinese folk music. Most of Han's work reflect the Tibetan culture.

Tseten Dolma

Tseten Dolma is a Tibetan soprano. She was born August 1, 1937 to a serf family in Shigatse, Tibet. Tseten was influenced by Tibetan folk music from a very young age, and first performed on stage in 1956. She is known for starring in the 1965 musical epic The East Is Red.

In 1958, she joined the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, learning from professor Wang Pinsu. She has served the Tibet branch of the Chinese Musicians' Association in various roles since the 1960s, including being chairman, director and vice-chairman of CMA, deputy secretary of Bureau of Cultural Affairs of Tibet Autonomous Region.
