Lhasa has many local products with strong minority ethnic group characteristics. Most famous ones are yak beef, Tibetan ornaments and Tibetan medicine. Dried beef made from yak has a special flavor; Tibetan accessories and clothing are especially popular among ladies, while Tibetan knives and other gadgets are more popular among men. The traditional hand-made Thangka is exquisite and elegant, which can be a good choice as souvenir. Prayer wheel is also a popular gift.

Tibetan knives are not allowed on the plane, nor can they be checked in. You can send them home by post. The post office on Beijing middle road, north of barkhor street, is the general post office in Lhasa,which is the fastest among all the post offices.

Dried yak beef
Yaks live in the snow mountain plateau area 3500 meters above sea level. Yak beef is considered natural and pollution-free meat. The dried beef has many flavor and each of them tastes god in their own way.

Tibetan handicrafts
Thangka, Tibetan knife, aprons, costumes, shoes and hats, gold and silver jewelries and various traditional handicrafts are all made by hand with exquisite workmanship. They all look graceful and show strong minority ethnic group characteristics.

Tibet is famous for its medicinal materials, such as saffron, cordyceps and snow lotus, as well as various magical Tibetan medicines compounded and processed by Tibetan doctors, most famous among which is "pearl seventy". The best place to buy Tibetan medicine is the Tibetan hospital opposite the square of Jokhang temple.

Tibetan incense was originally made for Buddhist rituals, which has become a popular souvenir for it can sooth the nerves and reduce pressure.

Zongjiao Lukang wet market is the largest wet market in Lhasa where you can get fresh fruits and vegetables.
